Welcome!

This blog exists to provide information and discussion space for the Audiovisual Aids in English Teaching class.

Media, links, and information posted here will help you prepare for your next class.  It will also help you review the course material, for example, before the written test.

Homework assignments will also happen here.  You must (1) post a response to the questions posed in the post and (2) respond to at least one other student's response.  The responses should be real responses - not just one or two sentences saying nothing.  Tell us what really interests you about this week's post.  If you're not interested in the post, or if you don't like the material, you can say that too - but say why.

Do not post any personal information about yourself or anybody else on this blog.  We are all adults, but one must always be careful.  Even more importantly, we must conduct ourselves in preparation for teaching primary and secondary school classes using Web 2.0 tools.  This is a situation in which privacy and safety concerns are highly sensitive.  Getting accustomed to these concerns beforehand is crucial.

  2. 1) The Education and Technology Center, Enlaces, has been working in all the subsidized schools in Chile since 1992 with the objective of integrating ICTs within the classroom, aiming to the development of digital competences and abilities. Moreover, Enlaces is responsible for the teachers’ training and also, is in charge of the distribution of technological hardware and software. I think that there are many resources and programs that could help us as teachers to make our subjects more interesting and attractive for our students; for example the program “Mi Taller Digital”, aims to provide digital resources and training to teachers and students in five fields related to technology: robotics, video editing, videogames, digital comics and tech-brigades. Consequently, integrating our subject with any of the previous fields can be really useful because it would help to obtain a high level of commitment from the students towards our English classes since they will be working in a familiar environment where they can, at the same time, be improving and practicing English and be part of a project of their areas of interest.

  3. 2) I believe that the methodology that Khan Academy proposes is a defiance to the conventional conception of teaching and it can be the starting point for the revolution in how students will learn in the future. Even though it is a brilliant proposal and the mechanism within it seems to have no flaws, implementing it in our schools will suppose a total transformation of the society’s mindset in which knowledge is considered as something that has to be brought to us by someone else. I think that the main intention of Khan Academy is to encourage students to find and get the information by themselves, using all the tools and digital resources that technology provides and afterwards, in the classroom, transform that information into something useful and significant for them and their peers by sharing what each one has discovered and understood from the videos or any other source. The previous describes what the concept of “humanize education” is, students being close to each other creating collaborative learning guided by teachers who will be prepared to lead them to a proper way to solve their doubts.

    1. Honestly, I don't know what's going on with this blog but when I posted the first replay I thought it was being done, but apparantly google is banning me or something. If tomorrow these posts aren't here, I'll assume my hypothesis was correct! Sorry for being late, I hope you'll understand! or I can make myself clearer tomorrow ;)
